Happy New Year Everyone!

Here we are again at the beginning of another year.  Like everyone else, I’m contemplating what I’d like to do differently or at least a little better in the new year.  So here goes:

#1: I’d like to stop the roller coaster weight loss for good.  I’m so tired of being a yo-yo dieter/exerciser.  I resolve to finally take control of my body and what I put into it.  I resolve to workout and exercise as part of a changed daily routine.  I resolve to stop my sometimes anorexic ways and stop the binge cycles too.  I plan on doing at least one 10k this year.  I’ve done three before and want to get back into running again.  I’ve signed up with a friend to run 500 miles this year.  Yes.  I’m crazy!  But that should help me reach my goal, right?!

#2: I want to spend less time on the internet and more time with my family.  Who knew being on the computer would take up so much of my time?!  Don’t get me wrong- I’ve made LOTS of great friends through the internet, but by spending so much time on fb and my message boards, I’m denying my kids and husband my attention (not to mention my house!).  I resolve to set a limit to my computer use- and stick to it!

#3: I am going to stop worrying so much about the details and just live life and love people.   I’ve had tons of friends in my lifetime – some of which I don’t speak to anymore because of “stuff”.   Life is simply too short to spend worrying about the small details (drama) of life.  I resolve to let hurts of the past go and all those who I’ve hurt, please forgive me.  I certainly fall short of the glory of God… but I’m trying!

#4: I am going to blog more.  Okay, I know.  This totally goes against #2 you’re thinking… but not really.  The time I do spend on the internet, I’m going to cut out the useless surfing at PEOPLE.COM and spend more time blogging about my life, kids and other passions.  My blog is therapy for me and I enjoy it.  I love being able to look back and see where I’ve come and how my kids have grown.

#5: I am going to simplify, clean out and unclutter my house!  Not that it’s really dirty or anything- but my house tends to get very cluttered.  All the kids drop this or that here and there and I’m usually too busy or too tired to do anything about it.  I resolve to spend time simplifying  organization in my home, cleaning out what we don’t need and uncluttering closets, drawers, etc.

So that’s what I’m going to focus on this year.  What about you?  Comment and tell me what YOUR New Years resolutions are!

Twas The Week After Christmas

Twas the week after Christmas and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I’d nibbled, the eggnog I’d taste.
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I’d never said, “No thank you, please.”

As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt—

I said to myself, as I only can
“You can’t spend a winter disguised as a man!”

So–away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won’t have a cookie–not even a lick.
I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won’t have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore—
But isn’t that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
